Make a Difference this Advent Season

Dear Junior High Students,

You each received a blue coin booklet for the Holy Childhood Association. This Advent, I challenge each one of you to contribute to this organization to help children around the world with the things they need to survive and live a life of true dignity. If you fill the booklet with at least $5, you can earn one Community service hour towards your service requirement (upon turning in the booklet and the Service Form to Mrs. Dyogi).

Let’s shift our focus this Christmas to what Christmas is all about! Here’s an awesome video for you to check out, just so you know what I mean…

Dear Students and Parents,

I would like to let you know that I will be gone next week for the Creighton Model FertilityCare Practictioner Training. This program will serve as professional development and help to solidify the foundation of the Family Life curriculum at St. Jerome, as it should align with the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Br. Chris will take care of all my classes. If you need to reach him, you may contact him at (310) 923-2678 / youthministry@stjeromewestchester.org. He will not be updating the wiki, so please make sure that all homework assignments are written down in the Agenda Book as you are always expected to do.

Please don’t forget that service hours and Spiritual Formation projects must be turned in by November 20. All projects for both programs MUST be pre-approved before completion.

Any pending Gradelink entries will be entered when I return the following week.

All Junior High service hours AND spiritual formation projects for 1st Trimester are due on FRIDAY, NOV. 20th!!

6th grade = 2 hours

7th grade = 4 hours

8th grade = 7 hours

(numbers posted are the MINIMUM hours that must be completed for 1st Trimester to get full points towards Religion grade)

6th REL – Peace Booklet Project

Peace Booklet
DUE NOV. 17th (30 POINTS)

Guidelines:

1. Cover (3pts) – Title, your name, date, pictures/quotations on peace

2. Dedication (2pts) – “Dedicated to…” (one name or a few people to whom you would like to dedicate the booklet)

3. Definitions of Peace (5pts) – Compose 2-3 definitions of peace (include drawings/pictures)

4. Quotations on Peace (5pts) – Choose 1-2 quotations on peace (from Bible, books of quotes, posters, songs, or make up your own). Explain what these quotes mean to you.

5. Peace and Others (10pts) – Explain what you are doing, or can do, to bring about peace and joy to others. Do 2 of the following topics (6-8 sentences each):

Bringing Peace to My Family
Bringing Peace to My Friends
Bringing Peace to the World

6. Peace Prayer (5pts) – Write a 6-8 sentence prayer asking God to help you be a peacemaker and giver of joy

1) Write a one-page scenario describing a teenager who is facing temptation. Describe the influences around him/her (environment, people, objects) and what he/she can do to overcome the temptation. DUE TUESDAY, OCT. 27th

2) Watch or read the news to find a news story that reflectsthe effect of sin. Describe the characters and events of the story. How do you think the roots of the sin began to grow(cause)? What was the result of the sin (effect)? DUE FRIDAY, OCT. 30th

6th REL – Ch 3 Everything God Created is Good

Creation Collage project – Use bits and pieces of “nature” to create a collage of things God created. Acceptable materials – cotton, seeds, leaves, twigs, feathers, rocks, shells, dried flowers, herbs

Materials cannot be “man-made” (nothing artificial – like beads, ribbons, etc). Please do not use anything dead (that’s just yucky) or fresh food that will mold.

Examples of collages would be:

* a picture of a bird, insect, or animal made using various materials
* a nature scene (forest, waterfall, garden) using various nature-made materials
* a human person made using various nature-made materials

Please make sure that all your materials are SECURELY GLUED to your poster board!
